Folks , let me begin by introducing myself. I , Amyra Manaktala am a student of La Martiniere for Girls , Kolkata. I currently am 14 years of age. I took this initiative as a way to spread my message of awareness on climatic catastrophes across the world and also to combine my three heartfelt passions – travelling , writing and learning about environmental issues that prevail in different parts of the world and finding a solution to them.
Today also happens to be Earth Day and an appropriate day to start my journey on this blog 😊
I also aim to make people realise that a small change in their everyday life can make a big difference (Kaizen mindset). I’m not talking about sailing from Plymouth to New York just like Greta Thunverg did because the airline industry is a major contributor to carbon emissions. Neither am I telling you to make massive changes , I am simply suggesting making basic changes. For instance , we know that air conditioners ( ACs) release chlorofluorocarbons ( CFCs ) , yet we continue to use them. Instead , we could use fans which consume about 1% of the electricity consume by ACS. Another simple example is the usage of cycles and public transport rather than individual vehicles as the greenhouse gas emissions will greatly reduce.
There is still ample time left and by making these basic changes we can contribute towards making the Earth a better place. Issues such as global warming , overpopulation , waste disposal , pollution and the greenhouse effect can still be prevented from further deteriorating the environment. But , that is only if we start now and stop procrastinating. We should preach the saying , “Better late than never.” For , if these environmental issues are not taken into control , in a few years it will bring mankind to its knees.
Amyra you have touched our hearts, from this moment onward I shall use AC for an hour then switch it off, and use the fan . Better Late than never 😊
Thank you!❤️

Amyra, really a good job done ,well expressed.
The liberty that we have taken with the earth has threatened the livelihood of people, species and ecosystem.
Earth day is not a day,but a movement calling on citizens to rise up and come together and act to make positive and sustainable changes to protect the earth and that small action can make a big difference…..A reminder that we all have a role to play in protecting planet earth for future generations.
Very well written Amyra!
Proud of you.
